Anointing of the sick
In case of emergency where you need a priest right
away, call (323) 255-6142 and press Option 2.
What is anointing of the sick?
The anointing of the sick (formerly extreme
unction) is administered to bring spiritual and even physical strength
during an illness, especially near the time of death.
It is most likely one of the last sacraments one
will receive.
A sacrament is an outward sign established by
Jesus Christ to confer inward grace.
In more basic terms, it is a rite that is
performed to convey God’s grace to the recipient, through the
power of the Holy Spirit.
What does the parish offer me if am sick or taking
care of a loved on who is ill?
St. Bernard’s priests are available to
confer the sacrament of anointing of the sick.
If you or a loved one would like to be anointed
with holy oil or receive holy communion, call our church office.
In addition, St. Bernard offers special services
throughout the year dedicated to the blessing of the body, such as the
blessing of throats on the feast day of St. Blase, or during our
monthly healing services sponsored by the Spanish prayer group.
