What is confirmation, and how can I become a confirmation candidate?

St. Bernard’s religious education program offers a two-year confirmation track for youth looking to be confirmed in the Catholic Church.

Our program is open to all high-school-aged youth.

If you have already graduated high school, you may be interested in our RCIA track.

Confirmation represents the gifts bestowed on Jesus’ 12 apostles at Pentecost: wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord.

It is the final sacrament bestowed before entering into full communion with the church.

At confirmation, a bishop annoints the forhead of the confirmation candidate while reciting, “Receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Peace be with you.”

To which the newly-confirmed replies, “And also with you.”

Confirmation is a two-year preparation that involves retreats, confirmation classes, attending Mass, among other things.

Sometimes, the newly-confirmed return to become confirmation facilitators themselves.

Confirmation candidates must provide proof of baptism (baptismal certificate) and proof of first communion (first communion certificate).

These documents can be obtained, by request, at the church office (or at the church where the candidate was baptized and/or made their first communion).
